Gastrochilus sp

Very cute little flowers. >50 species in this group.some light frangrance..flowers found at the base, hiding initially but bursting proudly for attention when fully bloom.
Both these 2 flowered in Nov..lasted abt 1 month

Bulbophyllum genius

Lets hope this time will be successful with this unique species.read that as they have short roots, this grp require more frequent watering n high humidity. I find this grp tough to grow in high rise buidlings but I m just fascinated with their different type shapes of flowers. I always describe this genius as "orchids that have flowers that dont look like orchids".

Started potting this yesterday.hopefully one day will flower like below 

Bulbo pulchellum.

Very small flower abt 1cm each.was rediscovered in Singapore in 2010

New spikes started forming.hope to see the flower soon n can identify the name. Suspected bulbo reptans

Another bulbo.new shoots forming.no idea the name of this species.that makes growing even more exciting

Bulbophyllum blumei

No luck w my previous bulbo.somehow can not get the ambience right for it to grow well. Last 2 mths restarted growing this grp Bulbophyllum, hope some success this time

While in Botanic yesterday, came across a tree which bears many bulbo blumei, finally for the first time i saw the flower..pretty.bright color.seems like flowering season is Dec, Jan. Was succesfully re introduced in Singapore recent years.

I will try this species again, definitely.

Paphiopedilum . Maudiae

For 2 years, i had problems growing paph or otherwise nickname" lady's slipper" orchid...breakthrough came last year when i tried watering them less frequent. In the past was everyday, now 2x per wk..n bingo, last 2 years have been rewarded w consistent flowering..another trick is bright but indirect light, best is sheltered or thr a window panel.

Paph maudiae..i call it " green slippers". Bought one Oct last year..n interestingly, it has flowered twice this year already. April n Oct..n each time flower can proudly stand upright for 2 + mths

Denrobium scabrilingue

Found in northern Thailand, Myanmar. This came as a surprise to me as the leaves were dropping, and just when i thought something was not right, the flower buds startee forming.Guess its a semi- deciduous plant.

Very light sweet smell. 

Interesting to see 2 subtypes: a light yellow n a bright orange lips version

Many articles mentioned this species need a cool dry period year end for it to flower, somehow i was lucky, it just flowered without me giving much attention. Hope i will be just as lucky next year to see it flowers again

Golden chicken' beak. Dendrobium trigonopus

Also know as " golden chicken's beak".what a name.
1st time flowered..very bright golden yellow w greenish centre.what I like is the strong sweet refreshing fragrance that u can smell just a short distant away.
Interesting in the wild in thailand, it usually flowers in Feb- March.Here, it flowered earlier, in early Dec n is still going strong

Pholidota sp. A new genius i have recently acquired. There is great variation among leaf types of this genus; however, the flowers are usually small to large and appear upside down. Some do give off a unique smell...err? smelly?

The bigger of the 2 that I have is the Pholidota imbricata. This sp usually flowers in Aug-Oct. White flowers on a 15 cm long inflorescence. A little "over-powering " jasmine smell in my opnion, especially at night.

 

 

The second smaller one is pholidota articulate.
